Divorce

Simply put, divorce (or dissolution of marriage as the phrase is used in Oklahoma) may be the most challenging issue an adult can experience.  I provide deeply personalized and attentive legal support through every step of your divorce—offering a responsive, detail‑oriented approach tailored to your unique circumstances. I have extensive experience guiding clients through every aspect of a divorce action, including:

  • Legal and Physical Child Custody;

  • Child Support;

  • Property and Debt Division;

  • Support Alimony;

  • Attorneys' Fees; and,

  • Domestic Violence.

I am committed to protecting your interests and ensuring a fair outcome by providing clear guidance, strong advocacy, and perceptive support every step of the way.

Child Custody

I have a unique skillset and training to help clients navigate the most important and sometimes most acrimonious type of family law litigation: child custody disputes.  Custody litigation requires a thoughtful, strategic approach centered on the best interests of the child.  Whether disputes arise during or after a divorce, or between unmarried parents, Oklahoma courts consider a range of factors—including parental involvement, stability, and the child’s emotional needs—to determine legal (decision-making authority) and physical custody arrangements. With the potential for highly emotional stakes, experienced legal guidance is essential to advocate effectively, protect parental rights, and promote a resolution that supports the well-being of the child.  I understand that none of, us as parents, are perfect and have been able to assist parents (or grandparents) who have faced any of a myriad of to issues gain or regain custody of their children.

You should hire me as your custody attorney because I bring expert legal navigation, unwavering advocacy for your parental rights, and emotional objectivity—ensuring that every decision centers on your child’s best interests and stands strong under court scrutiny.

Child Support

For families with children, child support decisions hinge on the child’s best interests, incorporating parenting time, financial obligations, and each parent’s ability to care for the child. While there is a formula to calculate child support in Oklahoma, application of the formula can be somewhat complicated, especially for those parents who earn self-employment income or have jobs not simply based on W-2 income.  I can help streamline the process and focus on the important issues, whether you are calculating child support for the first time, seeking a child support modification, or attempting to enforce an existing child support order.

Property and Debt Division

When dividing property, Oklahoma courts will look at numerous factors. This starts with identifying which assets and debts are part of the marital estate versus those which are the separate property of one of the parties. Once the marital estate is established, the court will make a division as is "just and reasonable" - which does not always mean "equal." Property division can become complicated when the parties own interests in business entities, when there are allegations of inappropriate economic conduct (such as waste or dissipation of assets), or when there has been co-mingling of separate and marital property. I love "digging into the details" and coming up with creative solutions (even in situations that may feel bleak at the commencement of the case) to ensure my clients receive the best possible outcome and are set up for success after their divorce.

Support Alimony

Support alimony is designed to provide financial assistance to a spouse during and/or following a divorce, helping them transition toward financial independence. Unlike child support, support alimony is neither automatic nor based on any specific "formula."  Alimony is awarded based on one spouse’s demonstrated need and the other spouse’s ability to pay. Factors such as the length of the marriage, each party’s earning capacity, and the standard of living established during the marriage are carefully considered by the court.

In some instances, a spouse who sacrificed their career or contributed to ensuring the other could complete their education or career advancement may be awarded "resitutionary" alimony.

Whether you are seeking alimony, required to pay, or are seeking modification of an existing award, it is important to hire an attorney who knows the right questions to ask given the wide range of factors in play.  I know those questions, and how to get the answers.

Antenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements

Protecting your future doesn't mean expecting the worst—it means planning wisely.  Antenuptial/Prenuptial agreements allow couples to define financial expectations and property rights before marriage. Whether you're bringing significant assets into the marriage, have children from a previous relationship, or simply want peace of mind, I have assisted many clients in creating a clear, legally sound agreement tailored to your needs. I can help you secure your relationship with transparency and trust from the start.

I also have experience with postnuptial agreements, which are similar to prenuptial agreements, but are agreed to during the marriage.  The law in Oklahoma regarding both prenuptial and postnuptial agreements is nuanced, and I am well-versed in the components necessary to ensure your agreement is airtight and safely protects your interests.

Mediation

Mediation offers a confidential and cooperative way to resolve disputes outside of court. Whether you're navigating divorce, parenting arrangements, property division, alimony, child support or some combination of all of them, mediation provides a neutral setting in which both parties can work toward mutually beneficial agreements. I have successfully mediated hundreds of family law cases, and truly believe they are the best way to resolve acrimonious domestic matters in the vast majority of cases.  Mediation helps the parties maintain control over the outcome while reducing stress, cost, and delays often associated with litigation - while also letting them be heard in a professional and compassionate environment.  Mediation is not only efficient and cost effective, but it also helps preserve relationships, especially when children are involved.

I offer mediations either in person or virtually via Zoom.  If you elect to conduct your mediation in person, you and your attorney will be placed in a separate room from the other party and their attorney to maximize privacy and candor.

Guardian Ad Litem

As a guardian ad litem, I conduct thorough investigations and provide testimony and written reports to courts and parties concerning what custodial arrangement is in the child(ren)'s best interests. My investigations include meeting the parties, the children, school officials, and other important individuals in the children's lives.  I also have specialized training to serve in cases involving allegations of domestic violence or child abuse.  Helping families find the best custodial arrangement for their children is of the utmost importance to me.  I am dedicated to my GAL work: I frequently work on weekends, after-school hours, and have travelled to numerous states to conduct home visits to accommodate and assist families.

Parenting Coordinator

Parenting coordination in Oklahoma is a child-focused alternative dispute resolution process designed to assist high-conflict parents in implementing and complying with court-ordered parenting plans. Appointed by the court, a parenting coordinator helps reduce conflict, improve communication, and resolve day-to-day parenting disputes without returning to litigation. This process prioritizes the child’s best interests while also offering parents a structured, cost-effective way to navigate ongoing co-parenting challenges.

As a parenting coordinator, I have helped countless families foster more stable, cooperative parenting arrangements that support the child’s well-being, while also remaining out of the courtroom.

Attorney for Children

An attorney for the child(ren) is similar to a guardian ad litem, but while guardian ad litem focuses on the objective best interests of the child, as an appointed attorney for the child, I work with the court and the parents' attorneys to improve the parent-child relationship from the perspective of the child's preferences and point of view.   An attorney for the child is typically appointed when there have been allegations of child abuse - something I take very seriously.

Representing children is a demanding practice; it requires a high degree of patience and sensitivity to assist children of varying ages, backgrounds, socioeconomic situations, and unfortunately in situations that oftentimes include abuse allegations.  I have the training and demeanor to connect with children to ensure they are placed in the best custodial situation possible.

Guardianships [Adult and Child]

A guardianship is a legal arrangement in which a court appoints an individual (the guardian) to make decisions for someone who is unable to care for themselves or manage their affairs, such as a minor child or an incapacitated adult. Guardianships can cover personal, medical, and financial decisions, and are designed to protect vulnerable individuals while respecting their rights as much as possible. Oklahoma law requires careful court oversight to ensure the guardian acts in the best interests of the person under guardianship.

Legal maneuvering through a guardianship can be confusing given the highly specialized, document-intensive, and confidential nature of the proceedings. I have substantial experience assisting potential guardians and wards through this process.  I focus on ensuring the court has the information necessary to make the best and correct decisions.

Adoptions

Adoption is the legal process through which an adult becomes the permanent, legal parent of a child, providing them with the same rights and responsibilities as a biological parent. The process involves court approval and can include stepparent adoptions, relative adoptions, and adoptions through agencies or private arrangements. Oklahoma law prioritizes the best interests of the child, requiring background checks, home studies, and consent from certain parties when applicable. Adoption creates a lifelong legal and emotional bond, offering children stability and a loving, permanent home.

I have assisted numerous families through this exciting and life-changing process.

Protective Orders and Domestic Violence

A protective order is a court order designed to protect individuals from abuse, harassment, stalking, or threats of violence. Also known as a restraining order, it can prohibit the accused person from contacting or approaching the victim and may include other safety measures. Oklahoma law allows victims of domestic violence, family violence, or certain types of harassment to seek immediate protection through an emergency or temporary order, followed by a full hearing for a longer-term order. Protective orders are powerful legal tools to help keep individuals and families safe.

I have assisted countless clients in protective order litigation, including obtaining temporary and permanent protective orders, dismissing protective orders, and expungement of protective orders.
